A Copenhagen metro station bent gravity on purpose
The bench is on the ceiling. The train still runs on time.
A metro station in Copenhagen has a bench hanging from the ceiling, a trash can jutting sideways from a wall, and clocks overhead that appear to keep their own time. The disorder at Havneholmen station, which opened in 2024, is deliberate. The Danish artist group Superflex reimagined the platform as though the trains had been sped up to the speed of light, bending gravity and the room along with it. The metro operator gave the artists an unusually free hand. One Superflex member said they were told to "just go for it," and in places the client turned out wilder than the artists. The tilted fixtures sit beside working versions in their usual spots, so passengers can still check the time and see when the next train arrives. The station functions normally, even while its clocks and benches seem to have wandered off course.
