A deputy thought the deer was dead. It wasn't.

A Trinity County sheriff's deputy in Texas approached what he believed was a dead deer lying in the road last week, and his dash cam recorded exactly how that assumption ended. The deer moved. The deputy screamed, yelled "It's awake!" and ran. Within seconds he was laughing at himself, having realized he may have overreacted by a small margin. Local station 12 News Now posted the footage on Instagram, where the comments arrived quickly. "It's the hollering 'it's awake' that got me hollering," one viewer wrote. Several predicted the clip would haunt the deputy for the rest of his career. "That video will follow him into retirement," one person promised, adding that it would be shown at his retirement party. Another had a more immediate plan: "I feel like everyone in that office is gonna be a deer for Halloween." The deer, for its part, was fine.
