A hidden $12,000 reached the sick man who lost it

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina ยท 16 July 2026

The first number was dead. Then, live on air, he remembered a second.

Sak Yiengjuntuek found $12,000 in cash inside an old tool chest left behind by the man who sold him the restaurant that became Lemongrass Pho & Thai Cuisine in Myrtle Beach. He was clearing out what he considered junk when he spotted an ordinary sunglasses case and opened it. "I was so shocked," he told TODAY. "I knew right then that it belonged to the previous owner." The number he had on file was disconnected, so Yiengjuntuek contacted local NBC affiliate WMBF, hoping the man might see his story on air. He was live on camera when he remembered a second number saved under a different name. He called it right then, in front of the cameras. When the man picked up, Yiengjuntuek told him, "I have some good news for you." The owner, it turned out, was dealing with a serious health problem. The money reached him anyway.
