A stranger sent $3,000 to a mother he'd never met.

Bronx, New York ยท 26 August 2026

The bank wouldn't let him help. So he found another way.

A stranger who saw a Bronx mother's story on the local news gave her $3,000 to feed her children and get them ready for school. The two have still never met. Nina Chambers, 36, lost nearly everything in late June when a fire in a neighboring building on East 160th Street forced her and her three children out of their apartment. They moved into a hotel. At one point her bank account went overdrawn. Scott Evans, watching from hundreds of miles away, decided he could do something about it. He first tried to deposit money directly into her account, but the bank turned him away, so he went through the news station instead. "He didn't ask me for anything except, how can I help you?" Chambers said. Eight weeks later, she has a new apartment and a degree in human services. She still hopes to meet him one day.
