Celine Dion sang live again after nearly four years

Nanterre, France ยท 14 September 2026

She promised herself she wouldn't cry. She got one song in.

Celine Dion returned to the stage Saturday for the first time in nearly four years, opening a 16-show residency in Paris at the Plenitude Arena. The Canadian singer began with the French song "On Ne Change Pas," which means "we don't change," and finished it with tears in her eyes. "I had promised myself not to cry," she told the crowd, according to Variety. "I made a promise to come back, to be back on stage. So here I am, singing for you and singing for me, singing live!" She went on to perform "Because You Loved Me" and "My Heart Will Go On," in a black dress with her hair in a bun. Dion revealed in 2022 that she has stiff person syndrome, a rare neurological condition that causes severe muscle spasms and, she said, made it hard to use her vocal cords the way she was used to. Hours before the show, she posted a photo to Instagram with two words: "En route!"
