He became a nurse at 64, alongside his son

John Adesoye graduated from nursing school at 64, having spent one day a week on campus alongside his son Daniel, who was studying creative music technology at the same university. Adesoye earned his degree from the University of the West of England after completing a nurse associate program and an apprenticeship with the National Health Service Foundation Trust in Bristol. He grew up in a poor farming family in Nigeria, drawn early to electronics after wondering how the family radio worked. He later serviced equipment in Greece before moving to the UK. He has now secured a nursing role at Southmead Hospital, where he did his apprenticeship. Being around younger students made him feel young again, he said. Whether seeing his own son on campus had the same effect, he did not say. "When I got the chance to go to university, I didn't take it for granted," Adesoye said. "I followed it with my heart."
