He donated blood at all 85 centers, 545 times
A sniffle in Albany once sent him home. He kept going.
Trevor Bergman has donated blood at all 85 Australian donation centers, 545 times in total, giving to patients in nearly every corner of the country. The 59-year-old police officer from Melbourne is one of about 150 Australians known to carry the anti-D antibody, which is given to pregnant mothers whose newborns are at risk of hemolytic disease. He started the project on holiday in Perth. "When I went past the blood bank there and donated there, I just thought 'well I'm on holiday here, what a good way to see Australia,'" he told ABC News AU. The trip took him up the east coast and across to Darwin, places he said he never would have seen otherwise. His most memorable visit came in Albany, where he was turned away for having a sniffle. The final donation was in Canberra, where Sam Mostyn, the nation's representative to the crown, gave blood alongside him.
