The egg thief who survived a war zone found home
She stole eggs to survive. Now she gets a stuffed one to keep.
A stray dog in Ukraine survived a war zone by stealing eggs, a habit that kept her fed and also made her enemies. Rescuers named her Vtsilila, Ukrainian for survivor. No one knows how she ended up on the street, whether her family was killed or whether she was simply left behind. A woman named Krystina heard about the egg thief and reached her before angry neighbors could. Krystina's team caught the dog and promised she would never go hungry again. It took little time to keep that promise. A family in the Czech Republic adopted Vtsilila, and she now spends her days with a canine sibling and a soft bed. Her new family learned how much she loves eggs, so they bought her a stuffed egg toy. She plays with it constantly. Krystina still runs a shelter called Under the Sun, where she cares for more than 250 dogs waiting for homes of their own.
