Two kittens from the bushes won international cat honors
They started in a hedge. They finished at the top.
Two kittens pulled from the bushes in Lewis County, Washington, have taken the top two international Household Pet Kitten honors from The International Cat Association for the 2025-2026 show season. Triple AAA, rescued by Kay Hanvey, was named International Household Pet Kitten of the Year. Tortuga came in as International Second Best Household Pet Kitten. The Household Pet category exists for cats without a pedigree, which means a rescue from a hedge can compete against anyone. "Every cat deserves the chance to be seen for how special they are, regardless of whether they have a pedigree," said Julie Laney, president of Kootenai Kats Cat Club. "Triple AAA and Tortuga started life hiding in the bushes, and today they are international award winners." The club hosts its "Gobble Til You Wobble" show Nov. 14 and 15 at the Grays Harbor County Fairgrounds in Elma. Bring a can of cat food and admission drops by $2.
