Two tourists put down their suitcases to help fix an excavator

Phuket, Thailand ยท 31 August 2026

They could have kept walking to the hotel. They put the suitcase down instead.

Two Australian tradesmen on holiday in Phuket stopped on August 20 to help a local crew wrestle the steel track of a heavy excavator back into place. The men were walking along Bangla Road when they spotted the machine sitting at a roadwork site with one track out of position. Workers had been struggling to move it. One of the Australians, still carrying his suitcase on his way to check into his hotel, put it down and joined in. A second tourist stopped soon after, and both ended up applying grease and checking the track's movement alongside the local crew. Romklao Chooklin, who filmed the scene, said the pair asked for nothing. "They did it for free," Chooklin said. "There are still plenty of lovely, kind-hearted tourists out there." The suitcase, presumably, waited on the pavement until the job was done.
