A 90-year-old wanted a lap dog. Mocha knew the job.

Blue Springs, Missouri ยท 26 August 2026

She asked for a lap dog. A blind Chihuahua needed exactly one lap.

Donna James, 90, asked her family for one thing: a lap dog. Her exact words were, "I just would like to have a lap dog. What would you think about that?" Her daughter reached out to Pawportunities, a foster-based rescue in Blue Springs, Missouri, and executive director Carrie Siems already had a candidate. Mocha, a Chihuahua, was not born blind but lost her sight suddenly one day, and now wants to be in someone's lap all the time. The two met on video that later went viral. Donna held Mocha in her wheelchair, and the dog dozed off in her arms. The multigenerational household already had a cat, which was not the companion Donna had in mind. To keep Mocha bonded to everyone, the daughter now brings her along on daily coffee runs. "People think a small dog will automatically become a lap dog," Siems said. This one already knew the job.
