An 87-year-old delivered to the wrong house. Strangers gave $40,000.

Vancouver, Washington ยท 29 May 2026

Joe Symonds, an 87-year-old DoorDash driver in Vancouver, Washington, has raised more than $40,000 toward retirement after delivering food to the wrong house. He had spent the last year and a half on the job, covering everyday expenses and his medication, despite a few falls and stairs that had become harder to climb. The wrong address belonged to Alyona Dikiy, who was cleaning out her garage when she noticed he seemed disoriented. They talked for a few minutes, and she learned his age. "You couldn't imagine that being your own grandpa or grandma doing that," Dikiy told KGW News. She handed him $100, told him to take the day off, then posted a video and launched a GoFundMe with his permission. It crept to $400, then past $40,000 within days, from strangers around the world. "I never thought there were people like that," Symonds said. He calls Dikiy his angel.
