Sheriff's deputies in Kiowa County, Kansas, pulled over a speeding vehicle in July 2025 and found British '80s hitmaker John Waite inside. Waite and his band were headed to a concert at United Wireless Arena in Dodge City. Sergeant Justin Rugg, who made the stop, happened to be a longtime fan. "I'm not even on cloud nine; I'm on like cloud 12," he said, according to the Kiowa County Sheriff Office's Facebook page. What followed was less traffic stop than photo shoot. Waite posed with Rugg, then had his band lean over the hood of the patrol car, looking back at the camera in mock confusion. The department wished Waite well and told him to check out the Kansas sky. Neither the report nor the posts mention a ticket, which tells you something. Waite made the show. Rugg was in the audience, about four rows back, jumping up and down.
