Her wrong answer became a beloved internet catchphrase

Encino, California ยท 7 September 2026

The answer was ordinary. Her guess was not.

Gishma Tabari, a contestant from Encino, California, went viral on Wheel of Fortune in December 2023 for a guess that has outlived the correct answer. The three-word puzzle read "TH _ _ RITI _ S _ GR _ E." Tabari looked at it and confidently offered "The British Ogre." Host Pat Sajak paused. "Uh, no," he said. The real answer was "The Critics Agree." More than 8 million people watch the show nightly, and a good share of them decided they preferred her version. One viewer noted it sounded like a good band name. Another created artwork of what a British Ogre might look like. England, for the record, is not especially known for its ogres. Those belong mostly to French folklore. Rather than hide, Tabari embraced it. On Instagram she now wears the "Wheel of Fortune Flub Girl" title, describing herself as "British Ogre for life."
