He's spent 37 years welding a boat for Alaska
He started in 1987. He never stopped.
An 86-year-old man named Dale has spent nearly four decades welding a 62-foot steel boat in his front yard in Mineral Wells, Texas. He started in 1987 with one plan: finish the vessel and sail it to Alaska. It has four staterooms and is roughly 75% complete. At his age, he can no longer build alone, and a steep hill sits between the boat and the road, meaning heavy machinery will be needed to move it. The story spread after three English visitors, including content creator Laurence Benson, stopped by unannounced and heard him talk. Dale climbed a ladder to show them the deck, something he had not done in years. "The second he started talking about the boat, you could see it. He's as passionate now as he was 40 years ago," Benson wrote. He launched a GoFundMe, which raised more than $41,000 from over 1,500 donors within days. The goal is to see her on the water.
