One mom reached into her tote and saved the day
She left the pacifiers at the hotel. A stranger had a spare.
A mother on a work trip to New York this month realized at the park, hands already sweating, that she had left every pacifier back at the hotel. Her one-year-old, Evelynn, would be spending the day with two babysitting friends. The pacifier was not optional. She ran to a nearby drugstore, found the baby aisle empty of them, and turned to another mom whose own baby was bundled in a stroller. They split up to search the shelves. No luck. The writer started to wave it off, saying she would find some elsewhere. The other mom asked if she needed one right now, then reached into her tote and pulled out a clean, spare pacifier. The writer's eyes filled with tears. The hero of the story, as she put it, was another mom. She has learned that lesson more than once. Some mother somewhere remembered to pack the snack.
