She opened a bar where every book costs $8
A bar where staying until midnight is perfectly reasonable.
The Reading Room, a bar on the east side of Chattanooga, sells every book on its shelves for $8 or less. The books come from the Chattanooga Public Library Foundation, and a portion of each sale goes back to the foundation. Owner Linden Marno-Ferree dreamed up the combination after working both sides of it. She bartended, and before that she sold books at Harvard Book Store in Massachusetts and Politics and Prose in Washington, D.C. Floor-to-ceiling shelves meet exposed brick, vintage chandeliers, and corners built for disappearing into a novel. Drinks run from beer and cocktails to coffee and tea, with a modest food menu so readers never have to set a paperback down. The calendar leans into the mission, with author readings, bookish trivia, drag events, and live Drunk History performances. It is open noon to midnight, Wednesday through Sunday. Leaving with a used paperback might be the most predictable ending.
