Twelve-year-olds recorded questions. Seven years later, they answered.

Brandan Roberts, the video director at McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, filmed a group of sixth-grade boys in 2018, asking them to record questions for their future selves. In 2025, he filmed the same students, now mostly 18, answering. The idea came from the movie Boyhood. Several of the boys had forgotten the project entirely and watched their younger faces on an iPad for the first time in seven years. The questions were what you would expect from a twelve-year-old. One boy, Ward, asked whether Mexican was still his favorite food. Older Ward confirmed it, and named a few restaurants for the record. The advice ran deeper. Asked the biggest lesson he had learned, Canon said, "Always be kind to others and always love others. Just treat your neighbors as you would yourself." Roberts said one moment gave him chills. "It was just a real human moment," he said.
