Four years after it stopped his heart, Tommy finished

Tommy Price finished the Bob Graham Round last week, four years after the same route stopped his heart in the snow of the Lake District. The Round is one of English trail running's hardest tasks, 66 miles across 42 fells with 27,000 feet of climb, all to be done under 24 hours. Price's first attempt, in January 2022, ended just after the third peak, when hypothermia left him unable to walk. Rescuers found him face down and tried three times to restart his heart. His body temperature had dropped to 18C, which a rescuer told the BBC probably saved his brain while his heart was still. Doctors warmed him, restarted his heart and kept him in an induced coma for five days. This time, Keswick Mountain Rescue volunteer Jonny Hulme, one of the first responders that day, ran the opening leg beside him. "It was unfinished business," Price said, "and I had to do it to finish the story."
