Vets said amputate the two-day-old kitten's leg. They splinted it instead.
Kerry Ferguson and her daughter share their home with two dogs and eleven cats, and each one arrived with a story that most people would have walked away from. Amaya, a bloodhound mix, was thrown from a passing car at three months old. Arriette broke her leg when she was two days old, and vets recommended amputation. The family tried splinting it instead. Today she has full use of the leg. Sauske came to them with third-degree burns. JuJu Bear, blind in one eye, arrived so frightened that he bit and scratched anyone near him. With patience he turned friendly. Four of the cats are rehabilitated ferals, and four are black, which Ferguson notes tend to wait longest for homes. Two cats are still looking for families, and a third needs a special-needs home. The family motto, Ferguson says, is simple. There is always room for one more.
