Two South Florida siblings have built an app that has sent 25,000 slices of pizza to food-insecure families, mostly in Broward County. Aashrita Kaza and her brother Anish designed Pizza for a Purpose two years ago, when Aashrita was an eighth grader. The app streamlines the donation process, letting anyone order fresh pizza from a nearby restaurant and route it to a local charity. The idea came while the two were volunteering, where they realized that children in 21st-century America go hungry, something they had not known existed. "The reaction really warms our hearts, their faces just light up the second they get the pizza," Aashrita told CBS News for its Miami Proud segment. "It's very rewarding because it makes everything we do worth it." The app is now on the Apple App Store, built by two kids who noticed a problem and, lacking a better tool, wrote one.
