Two strangers sat in the wrong seats. Forty years together.
Sofia from Mexico and Ollie from England met in the stands of the Estadio Azteca during the 1986 World Cup quarterfinal, the same match where Diego Maradona scored the "Hand of God" goal. Nearly 40 years later, they are still together. In a video shared by FIFA, the couple explained that the meeting was pure accident. "We sat in the wrong seats, and we ended up up there," Sofia said. They started talking, bonded over Manchester United, and had drinks after the final whistle. She showed him Mexico City. He invited her to London. What followed was years of long letters and phone calls Ollie described as very expensive. Sofia gave him a cap inscribed "To a wonderful Englishman." He still has it. They got engaged in 1989 and married in 1990. When they learned the tournament was returning to Mexico, they came back to the stadium where two people in the wrong seats got it right.
