A stranger donated her kidney. The wait vanished.
She wanted her traveling days back. A stranger was already in testing.
Stacy Hobson was told she faced a five-to-seven-year wait for a kidney transplant, and that she should start dialysis. She said no. She wanted to keep traveling. "I'm like, if I can't do the things that I love, it's not living for me," Hobson told Action News 5. In May 2025, she was in Greece, newly at peace with whatever came. About an hour and a half from her home, in Memphis, Jenny Joyner had just started testing to donate a kidney to a stranger. An Ole Miss admissions counselor and a mother of three, Joyner had seen a friend's Facebook post about living donation and couldn't let it go. "Facebook and God, to be honest," she said. Then her husband set down a drink at dinner in a plastic cup with a transplant group's logo. "I didn't even know we had the cup," she said. The surgery came in August. The two women met in early November, both recovered. Joyner says she'd do it again.
