She led her first barre class of 60 people
For years she was the student in the front row. Now she holds the mic.
Aubry Allbridge, 22, led her first class of 60 people last week as a newly certified UpBeat Barre instructor at VASA Fitness in Kaysville, Utah. Jane Johnson, an instructor and co-owner of the gym, had watched Allbridge in classes for years and noticed something. "She has an incredible brain. Aubry can learn choreography so fast, and she retains it," Johnson told KSL. "She also knows all the lyrics to the songs, so she can sing along with the best of them." Allbridge, who has Down syndrome, had cycled through Zumba and Pilates before settling on barre as her favorite. She wore the mic. She called every cue. "I love to meet with people and collecting friends. I want to help everyone feel included," she said after her debut. Johnson is now helping her turn the certification into a full-time job at the gym. Allbridge's favorite part of the course was learning how to give people options.
